Title & Content

Title:
CANCELLED Medieval Riverscapes as Axes for Connectivity and Mobility
Content:
In the Middle Ages, the rivers and their basins were vital axes for movement and connectivity. This for mobility of people in general but above al as axes for trade, as is attested by the emporia and towns that were built to capture trade dynamics. The discussion of Riverscapes is therefor vital to many, if not most, aspects of medieval archaeology: trade and exchange, influence, mobility, infrastructure, from towns to canals and jetty's. Riverscapes are also particular landscapes with a very own landscape management and also this something we'd love to address. It is important to understand as well how Riversaceps were perceived, and how their perception changed through time. We want to tackle these key-research issue regarding Riverscapes via three key-note lectures, as is traditional for the MERC Forum, and invite researchers to discuss the Medieval Riverscapes with the key-note speakers and the communities of medieval and other archaeologists.
