Title:
CANCELLED Understanding Bronze Age and Iron Age Atlantic Europe through Metalwork Analyses and Hoarding
Content:
Although they are, by definition, land spaces isolated by the sea, islands are not on the margins of the world but an integral part of it. During the Bronze Age and Iron Age, islands and the surrounding coasts could also appear as privileged locations for contacts between populations, an assertion apparently confirmed by the few written sources available.

Along the European Atlantic seaboard, numerous archaeological discoveries of metal objects and hoard deposits have been made and attest to exchanges between populations at different scales. This is particularly the case for northern Iberia, Brittany, the Channel Islands, southwest Britain and Ireland where the islands and coasts are particularly concerned by this phenomenon, which has sometimes made it possible to highlight links with the Mediterranean world through the study of certain objects. The archaeological reality is not so simple, however, and now requires the use of chemical composition analyses, archaeometallurgy and mining archaeology to make progress in this direction.

This session aims to question the place of the islands and the coasts of the Atlantic Europe in the socio-economic exchanges of the metal ages. The objective is therefore to highlight these through studies of chemical composition, typology, or distribution of objects.
