Title:
When there's nothing else: Spatial analysis of Ķivutkalns hillfort inhabitation through excavation journals
Content:
Ķivutkalns is one of the best known Bronze and Pre-Roman Iron (1100-1 BC) Age site in the eastern Baltic. Although it has been reaserched thoroughly, especially in questions regarding chronology and assemblages of the hillfort, there are little research related to spatial analysis of the site. This is due to the fact that only information traces of spatial distribution left are in the journals, made during the excavations. This will be the first attempt to analyse inhabitation and everyday life in the Ķivutkalns hillfort in order to determine the main tendencies of living and crafting during the Late Bronze and Pre-Roman Iron Age eastern Baltic.
In this paper excavation journals will be critically analysed, the information about possibilities and problematics regarding their analysis will also be presented. In this study the archaeological assemblages will be analysed and put into the context related to structures such as houses and hearths of the hillfort.
